Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Graphic Language Linguist proficient in Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting, translating, and analyzing written and visual materials in either language, including text and graphical representations. This role requires an in-depth understanding of linguistic and cultural nuances, as well as a strong ability to process and communicate complex information across multiple formats, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translation & Interpretation:
Translate and interpret written materials, including documents, images, videos, and social media posts, from Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese to English and vice versa.
Ensure that the translation maintains accuracy, context, and cultural sensitivity while preserving the intended meaning of the original content.
- Graphic & Visual Analysis:
Analyze and interpret graphics, symbols, diagrams, and images in Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese to support intelligence gathering, communication, and data analysis.
Assist in extracting meaningful data from graphic representations such as maps, charts, and visual reports.
- Cultural & Linguistic Expertise:
Provide insights into cultural and regional linguistic differences, idiomatic expressions, and context-specific meanings to ensure proper translation and understanding.
Serve as an expert resource on Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese language and culture.
- Reporting & Documentation:
Prepare and submit translated and analyzed materials in a clear and concise manner.
Provide written and verbal reports summarizing findings, trends, and insights derived from the linguistic and graphic analysis.
Work closely with intelligence teams, analysts, and other linguists to share insights and contribute to mission objectives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper interpretation and integration of language findings into actionable intelligence.
Review and proofread materials to ensure translations are accurate, culturally appropriate, and aligned with mission requirements.
Maintain consistent quality and attention to detail in all outputs.
- Research & Professional Development:
Continuously improve language skills and cultural knowledge by staying updated on developments in both languages and related cultures.
Conduct research as necessary to support the understanding of emerging terminology, slang, and visual trends.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Language Studies, International Relations, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Fluency in Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese, with proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking.
- Strong understanding of both graphic design/visual elements and linguistics, with the ability to analyze images, symbols, and other visual data in the context of language.
- Proven experience in translation and interpretation, particularly in a professional or intelligence-related setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese, and English.
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in both language and visual content.
- TS/SCI required.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or advanced certifications in Linguistics, Translation, or a related field.
- Experience with specialized terminology in areas such as military, government, intelligence, or media.
- Familiarity with translation software, graphic analysis tools, and linguistic resources.
- Experience working in cross-cultural environments or international teams.
Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of Tagalog OR Mandarin Chinese grammar, syntax, and colloquialisms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and convey meaning from complex materials.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Expertise in the use of visual tools and software for translating and analyzing graphic content (e.g., image annotation, graphic editing software).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office environment or remote setting as required.
- Occasional travel may be required for field assignments or special projects.
