Chef Carlo Lamagna, a 2022 James Beard Award finalist who was also named one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs in 2021, has partnered with The Culinary Creative Group to bring you Magna Kainan, a Filipino restaurant. Magna Kainan, a more upscale, woodfired approach to Filipino fare, is a sister restaurant to Lamagna’s original spot, Magna Kusina, which he opened in Portland in 2019 and was named Portland’s best restaurant in 2021 by the Oregonian. (“Kainan” means “eatery” in Tagalog.)
Magna Kainan is searching for a Server to join the team. Weekend availability (especially Sundays) is a must!

PURPOSE
Servers are responsible for providing excellent hospitality to all guests through the service of food, drinks, menu knowledge, and experience within the standards of our restaurant/bar. Servers are expected to act in the best interest of the team and guests while performing their assigned duties, staying guest focused, and providing an excellent guest experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greets guests as they are seated at the table while providing excellent service to address their needs in a timely fashion.
- Guide guests through the menu providing exceptional knowledge of beverage and food menu items and presenting the daily specials, if applicable.
- Answers questions regarding the menu and make suggestions that might appeal to them.
- Provide guests with product details, such as farms/farmers, products used, or preparation descriptions.
- Enters all food and beverage orders into the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Ensures that customers are of legal drinking age by checking photo IDs.
- Delivers food, beverages, condiments, and other requested items to guests.
- Ensures that food is prepared correctly and to guests’ satisfaction; returns incorrect or improperly cooked orders to kitchen.
- Collects plates and clears the table as guests finish their meals.
- Prepares guests’ checks and collects payments.
- Communicate customer feedback to management in a timely manner to be able to recover or thank guest experience.
- Handles busy service independently and professionally.
- Responsible for total service of their assigned section while in assistance to the rest of the team
- Follow checklists and complete corresponding side work upon conclusion of service or shift.
- Assists host in answering phone calls, answering guest questions, provide information, or take reservations, if necessary; understands how to place a guest on hold and/or take a message.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized work area, seating areas, and equipment/tools by following all health, safety and sanitation guidelines and standards.
- Comply with all food and beverage regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Excellent customer service, communication, and time management skills.
- Well-organized with ability to take and place food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Ability to operate POS systems.
- Strong ability to multi-task and problem solve quickly.
- Ability to retain information discussed at daily service meetings and relay to team members and guests.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
- Ability to communicate issues with proper members of the team to assist in providing solutions.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, while remaining calm and professional.
- Understanding of hygiene and food safety rules
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
- Highschool diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of service experience.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including opening, closing, weekends, and holidays.
- Must successfully complete Busser/Expo position test with exemplary scores (90 or above).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
