Job Summary: inlingua Boston is seeking proficient, experienced, and highly skilled African, European, Middle East, Asian, and Latino/ American interpreters to join our team as freelance contractors. Provide exceptional interpretation services for a diverse clientele. The interpreters will facilitate effective communication between individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and English-language professionals in various contexts, such as academic settings, legal and educational institutions, commercial enterprises, and community organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and culturally sensitive consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation between English and the target language.
- Enhance educational, business, healthcare, and legal communication by leveraging expertise.
- Listen to the speaker’s statements to grasp their meanings and prepare an interpretation.
- Treat individuals with limited English proficiency in the system with dignity and respect.
- Enhance communication among law enforcement and individuals involved in crimes, including witnesses, persons of interest, and suspects.
- Deliver oral interpretations for clients during special events, effectively keeping pace with native speakers to ensure real-time comprehension in healthcare, legal, educational, and community settings as needed.
- Ensure clarity and cultural awareness when interpreting complex or technical terms.
- Adhere to professional ethical interpretation standards, including impartiality and confidentiality.
- Adhere to institutional guidelines, FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable privacy laws.
- Maintain professionalism and ensure accuracy in every assignment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proficiency in both English and the target language encompasses spoken and written communication.
- Certification is preferred, including the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, ATA, RID, or MA Court Interpreter Certification, which is a plus.
- Experience in education, healthcare, legal, or community interpretation is advantageous.
- Demonstrates a profound understanding of cultural competency, sensitivity toward diverse populations, and ability to navigate sensitive conversations.
- Ability to remain neutral, professional, and accurate in all interpretations.
- Excellent listening, memory retention, and note-taking skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in languages, interpretation, linguistics, communications, or a related field.
- Exceptional bilingual communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Demonstrated an understanding of cultural sensitivity and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience collaborating with LEP individuals in educational, public, and corporate environments.
- Proficiency with remote interpretation platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
