Job announcement, special application (specific to Transit Car Cleaner examination) and scantron readable (red and white) Application for Employment will be distributed for one day only on April 18, 2005 between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm from the Municipal Transportation Agency Recruitment Office, 401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco.
Completed Transit Car Cleaner special application and scantron readable application must be hand-delivered by the applicant to the Municipal Transportation Agency Recruitment Office by 6:00 pm on April 19, 2005.
Under supervision, the Transit Car Cleaner cleans the inside and outside of electric trolley coaches, diesel buses, streetcars, light rail vehicles and cable cars. Essential functions of the classification include: sweeping the floor of the transit vehicle; removing trash from the vehicles, operating vacuum power blower to cleaning the transit vehicles, removing substances adhering to the interior of the vehicle; clean the metal areas of vehicle; washing the floor of the vehicle; washing the interior and exterior of both non-revenue and transit vehicles; removing graffiti from the interior and exterior of the transit vehicles; reporting defective or broken equipment on the transit vehicle to supervisor; filling the sand receptacles of the transit vehicle; posting signs, notices and circulars in the interior of the transit vehicle; and driving the vehicle through the wash rack and placing them in another part of the yard. Incumbents may be required to perform other related duties. The annual salary range is $39,832 - $48,308.
Nature of work: Requires incumbents to work on different shifts, weekends and holidays; work in inclement weather and around moving transit vehicles; and use chemical cleaning agents. May be exposed to dust, fumes, oil, gas and other vapors and biohazards such as vomit, blood, urine and feces. Lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of the MUNI Entry Level Training Program with the possession of a certificate; OR
  • Completion of a certified custodial training program (such as the 108-hour program offered by the San Francisco Community College District) and nine months of verifiable custodial or janitorial experience using industrial cleaning chemicals and equipment; OR
  • One year of verifiable custodial or janitorial experience using industrial cleaning chemicals and equipment; AND
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver license at the time of appointment. Must be able to obtain a Class B driver license.

Only one application will be given to each applicant.
Application Submission
Completed 9102 Transit Car Cleaner special application and the scantron readable application must be hand delivered by the applicant to the Municipal Transportation Agency Recruitment Office located at 401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco by 6:00 P.M. on April 19, 2005. At the time the application is submitted, the application will be reviewed and the applicant will be notified whether he/she meets the minimum qualifications. If the applicant meets the minimum qualification, the applicant will be provided the time, date and location of the written examination. Applications received after 6:00 pm on April 19, 2005 will be rejected. Mailed applications will not be accepted. Photocopied applications will not be accepted. Please refer to pages 4 & 5 for instructions on completing the scantron readable application.
VERIFICATION: Written verification (proof) of qualifying experience or training may be required at a later date. Failure to provide the verification, when requested, may result in rejection of the application or placement of the candidate under waiver of appointment on the eligible list.

Notes
  • The Municipal Railway Department (MUNI) has determined that Class 9102 Transit Car Cleaner is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). Federal law requires that all transit employees who perform safety-sensitive functions be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. All applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test prior to appointment.
In addition, each applicant who has worked for a Department of Transportation (DOT)-regulated employer(s) within the last two years will be required to sign a consent form, prior to appointment, authorizing MUNI to obtain information from his/her prior employers concerning his/her drug and alcohol test history. Each applicant will also be required to provide MUNI with information regarding whether, during the last two years, the applicant tested positive or refused to test on any pre-employment drug or alcohol test administered by an employer to which the applicant applied for, but did not obtain, safety-sensitive transportation work covered by DOT drug and alcohol testing rules. MUNI will not hire any applicant for a safety-sensitive position who fails to provide this information or fails to provide written consent for the release of information from prior employers.
  • One year of work experience is equivalent to 2000 hours.
