RESTORATIVE VICTIM ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR
PRIMARY PURPOSE
This position is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the District Attorney’s Juvenile Diversion Initiative (JDI) administered by the National Conflict Resolution Center, working in conjunction with NCRC management, San Diego County District Attorney’s office, program partners, and community stakeholders.
We are in search of a talented and professional Restorative Victim Engagement Coordinator to assist and support Case Managers with victim engagement. You will represent the JDI program and work with the JDI team to encourage and increase Restorative Conference participation of Persons Harmed (victims). You must have a solid understanding of restorative justice principles, a working knowledge of how restorative conferencing works and how actively engaging those impacted by wrongdoing helps to foster closure and healing.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven to take on this exciting role. You must have a solid understanding of restorative justice principles, 2+ years of youth and community engagement, 2+ years of victim engagement/advocacy, and public speaking experience; 2+ years working with diverse teams; a bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
● Strong knowledge and experience in restorative justice practices, including facilitation, circle keeping, conferencing, mediation and/or conflict coaching
● Knowledge of evidence-based practices; demonstrated competency in collaboration, humility, perseverance, adaptability
● Strong demonstrated ability to develop personal relationships
● Strong sense of compassion and empathy for people harmed by crime
● A working knowledge of the criminal justice system and court procedures in California
● Intermediate computer skills including ability to learn new technology, including database applications
● PowerPoint or similar presentation software experience
● Excellent organizational, listening, oral and written communication skills
● Ability to do public speaking as an advocate for the Restorative Justice program and process
● A solid understanding of and commitment to social change through building the capacity and power of people to change their communities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Victim Engagement
● Work alongside and in collaboration with the Case Management team to contact Persons Harmed (Victims) countywide
● Clearly articulate the Restorative Conferencing model and its benefits to victims, offenders and the community
● Identify innovative methods and supports needed to encourage and increase Restorative Conference participation by Persons Harmed
● Seek out and provide additional community resources to support Persons Harmed
● Continued engagement and support of Persons Harmed countywide
● Demonstrated ability to work cross-racially, cross-culturally, and cross-denominationally
● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
● Must work in-person a minimum of 3 days a week and participate in contract-mandated, countywide victim engagement efforts, processes and procedures
● Must practice cultural competency when attending events/meetings with new organizations and with clients
● Use a Restorative Justice lens when deciding which organizations to meet with and when meeting with Persons Harmed
● Prep for and participate in as co-facilitator of restorative conferences, as needed
● Must have reliable transportation
● Bilingual a plus (Spanish[foremost] Vietnamese, Tagalog, Kiswahili, Arabic, Burmese, etc.)
All successful candidates will go through an orientation period that includes multiple trainings/workshops including but not limited to Mandated Reporting Laws, Restorative Practices, ART of Inclusive Communication, Anti-Harassment training, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-informed Care training.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.50 per hour
