Professional Sign Language Interpreter / Language Specialist (Filipino & English)
UpworkWe are seeking experienced Filipino and English professional sign language experts to support a research project involving interviews with deaf and hard-of-hearing workers. The role involves facilitating communication during interviews and providing accurate oral and written translations to support data collection and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Provide professional sign language interpretation (Filipino Sign Language and/or other relevant sign systems, as appropriate) during research interviews with deaf participants
Facilitate two-way communication between researchers and participants in a respectful, ethical, and culturally sensitive manner
Provide oral interpretation (sign-to-spoken English/Filipino and vice versa) during interviews
Produce written translations/transcriptions of interview content as needed for research purposes
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical research standards when handling sensitive personal information
Collaborate with the research team to ensure accurate representation of participants’ responses and meanings
Required Qualifications
Professional fluency in Filipino Sign Language and spoken/written English (fluency in Filipino/Tagalog is strongly preferred)
Demonstrated experience interpreting for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals, preferably in professional, research, or institutional settings
Strong written communication skills in English
Familiarity with ethical standards related to confidentiality and informed consent
Ability to communicate complex ideas accurately and neutrally, without interpretation bias
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working on research or interview-based projects
Knowledge of workplace, labor, or organizational contexts
Certification or formal training in sign language interpretation (where applicable)
Compensation
The total compensation for this role is €1,500, covering interpretation and translation services for the duration of the project.
